Hi, I wanted to let you know to be wary of ordering through SoundsOnDemand.com which is affiliated with BestService. I bought the Chris Hein Horns Vol. 1.5 Update recently through them.
I received the download links automatically but I received no serial number. That was 2 weeks ago. Now my ability to use it is running out (14-day limit without serial #). I've sent several emails to SoundsOnDemand to try and get my serial number before the demo period expires and have received no response. I've also sent an email to Chris Hein directly. I've provided my order details to them and asked if there was anything else needed. No response from either.
At this point I feel that I've exhausted my options in trying to communicate with them. I normally hate these kinds of posts as sometimes I feel people will take this avenue before trying to communicate with the company to resolve their issue. Not in this case.
I've allowed appropriate time for them to respond as well as a reasonable amount of time for them to respond. It seems sometimes that negative publicity is what some companies respond to unfortunately.:( I would recommend that you be careful if you decide to order through SoundsOnDemand. For me, it hasn't been BestService but WorstService!:x Fernando Vicente. Re::( Chris Hein Horns Vol 1.5 and SoundsOnDemand - Worst Service!
Hey Fernando, I checked my mailbox and my spam folder, I never got a mail from you, at least not under the name Fernando Vicente. As you can see, I try to answer as fast as I can, even here within one hour. Concerning your problem: For the update you don't get a serial number from SoundOnDemond or from me. All you have to do is use the NI Service center and register at the NI site.
There you get the new serial number for CHH Vol.1.5 I'm pretty sure, this procedure is described in a readme that came with the downloads. Thanks anyway for updating, hope you enjoy the new features. Re::( Chris Hein Horns Vol 1.5 and SoundsOnDemand - Worst Service! Hi Chris, Thanks for your reply. I apologize for being harsh but I felt that I was not getting service. My complaint was more with SoundsOn Demand than it was with you.
I only sent you one email. I know that it is possible for the odd email not to get through. However, I sent multiple emails to SOD and received no response.
I’ve never had multiple emails disappear. I sent emails to both their support and sales addresses. The install notes that come in a text file specifically mention that I should receive a serial number within 14 days and mentions to check the CHHVol15Serial.pdf (or some similar filename). If I may, can I please suggest that you update your install notes text file as it is confusing and would have prevented this situation. I’ll try the service center again.
I believe that I did try running the service the first time I installed the library (it installed a new version of the Service Center) but the library still shows up as unregistered. I’ll re-attempt to see if it works this time. Thanks again for your prompt reply to this matter. I apologize for bringing this out in a public forum and wish that I hadn’t felt the need to. I still feel that I should have been responded to by SOD at the very least and do not believe that my emails to them vanished into thin air. I appreciate your help and will update this post once my registration issue is resolved.
Thanks again. Another tip on the service center: Do NOT (I repeat: DO NOT!!!) install and use the service center application that comes with all NI products. It's outdated, buggy, slow, dysfunctional and more. Go to the Native Instruments website - support - product activation.
Search for the link to 'download service center'. This should point you to version 2.0.4 of the application, which is a complete re-write and works flawlessly. The old one gave me loads of problems, who knows if it contributes to your problems? Hi Chris, Thanks for your reply. I apologize for being harsh but I felt that I was not getting service. My complaint was more with SoundsOn Demand than it was with you. I only sent you one email.

I appreciate your help and will update this post once my registration issue is resolved. Thanks again. Re::( SoundsOnDemand:( Hi Luca, I did not think to try an alternate email address. The fact is, they did receive at least one of my emails.
I received an email from SOD directly responding to one of my previous emails within minutes of Chris’ post here. After thinking about it some more, the title for this thread was probably overly harsh.
For that, I apologize and, as said above, I have modified the topic description in my first post. Perhaps I was the anomaly and not the norm in this particular case. However, if they (SOD) had responded within what I feel is a reasonable time frame, it would never have been posted. The install notes came in a text file and did not specify that the Service Center would automatically update the old library and provide a new serial number. In fact I ran the service center after installing it but it did not give me a serial number at that time. I did not realize that this is what I was supposed to do.
I will try it again later and hopefully it will work. Thanks to all for their posts and Chris for responding to this matter quickly. Fernando p.s. – I’m glad to hear that several of you had positive experiences with SOD. Click to expand.OK, I just tried it. It did NOT work.
I'm not surprised - how would the service center know that I paid for the update? Please note - this is NOT an update that I just download and apply. Even though the name of it is update, it is an Upgrade. I paid for it. The service center has no way of knowing that I paid for it if I don't have a serial number (which is what it AND I are asking for).
Here is the link to what I bought: It says that I need to be a registered owner of CHH Vol 1 on the purchase info. I am a registered owner and bought it through SoundsOnline in 2006. Here is the text from the installation readme. The install readme is named: chhinstallreadme.txt. Here is a snippet from the notes contained inside which pertains to the serial number: The software works 14 days without serial number registration. During that time you should get your update serialnumber (see 'CHH15UpdateSerial.pdf') and use the NI ServiceCenter to register the library to use the software permanently. I think that it is pretty clear in what it asks me to do.
This is a different install procedure than you mention. Furthermore, there is no CHH15UpdateSerial.pdf anywhere on my drive. Re: SoundsOnDemand Hi Everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know how things have gone with this issue and to put things into perspective. I am happy to say that my issue has now been resolved, thanks to Chris and the teams at SoundsOnDemand, Best Service and even NI.
After I posted this topic, all parties involved were very responsive. So although I was not satisfied with the response to my initial requests for help, they came through in the end.
As a result, I would feel comfortable in purchasing through SoundsOnDemand again. It turns out that there was supposed to be a PDF document that explained the steps to go through to get the serial number. That PDF was not included in any of the download files. There was a separate Install Notes text file included stating that I should receive a serial number within 14 days.
So, I was expecting to receive a serial number that was never going to come, and my requests for support went unanswered until I posted this. I have notified SOD that the PDF did not come in the download files so hopefully they will ensure that this does not happen to anyone else.
I would like to thank Chris, and the people at SOD and Best Service who helped me directly with my problem. I will say once again that this library sounds great IMHO. It really improves on Vol. Anyone who has Vol.1, I highly recommend that you use it. It also has improved loading over Vol. I’m still getting to know it better so I don’t know all of its shortfalls yet (all libs have something) but it will get used quite a bit by me.
It will be a great addition to my sets of libs (The Trumpet, Screaming Trumpet and QLB) for doing pop, jazz and latin arrangements. I had been saving my pennies for Sonivox’s Big Band Brass but it’s becoming less of a necessity for me.
